  5.      MEDLINE (R), the bibliographic database of the National Library of
  6.      Medicine, is the primary source in the United States for information
  7.      from the biomedical literature.  It is the computerized counterpart of
  8.      Index Medicus, and also contains citations that appear in the Index
  9.      to Dental Literature and the International Nursing Index.  MEDLINE
  10.      contains references to articles from more than 3200 journals, selected
  11.      for inclusion because of their importance to health professionals.

  22.      Each reference to an article in MEDLINE is called a record or a
  23.      bibliographic citation.  The full text of the articles is not in
  24.      MEDLINE, but approximately half of the citations contain abstracts
  25.      (summaries) written by the article's author.  MEDLINE is international
  26.      in scope; approximately 75% of the citations are published in English.

  28.      MEDLINE includes such topics as:  microbiology, delivery of health 
  29.      care, nutrition, pharmacology, and environmental health.  The 
  30.      categories covered by MEDLINE include:  anatomy; organisms; diseases;
  31.      chemicals and drugs; technics and equipment; psychiatry and psychology;
  32.      biological sciences; physical sciences; social sciences and education;
  33.      technology, agriculture, food, industry; humanities; information
  34.      science and communications; and health care.
